What is Youthpass?

Youthpass is a European recognition tool for non-formal and informal learning in youth work. Youthpass is used in projects funded by the Erasmus+ Youth in Action and Youth in Action programmes. Participants of these projects can use Youthpass to describe what they have done and show what they have learnt.

What can you learn?

Depending on the project, situation or location, you can learn: at what time they serve dinner in Spain; how to write, plan, and implement your own Erasmus+ project; how does the Romanian spring festival look like; how to use trains in Germany without traveling to Denmark by mistake; which are the most popular dishes in Slovakia; how to make decisions in a team with international group of young people you just met; how to communicate in foreign languages; how to help someone become aware of what they learned; what is the thing that makes learning interesting for you. And so much more! 

Youthpass represents a process of active thinking about what you have learned, and the ability to write it down and use through a certificate which describes your competences (abilities, knowledge, and attitudes) gained during participation in Erasmus+ projects.

Youthpass was created in order to ensure recognition of competences gained through nonformal learning, during projects implemented within Erasmus+ Programme: Youth in Action.

Youthpass is an instrument used to assess skills and knowledge, based on 8 key competences. At the end of Youthpass process, the participants can become aware of the gained competences and can be able to show the results of their learning.

The certificates are issued by the organisations or persons included in the project and who are working with young people. Depending on the type of activity, this role can be performed by the activity organizer (coordinator, trainer, mentor, etc.), as well as a young person or a youth worker participating in the process.

Youthpass should not be just a certificate of attendance, but a certificate of a learning process.

Latest news in Youthpass

  • In September 2019. Youthpass has reached a figure of 1 million generated certificates for recognition of non-formal learning within the Erasmus+ programme.
  • New Key competence framework within the Youthpass is being implemented since August 20th 2019. Here you can find the new Key competence framework.
  • Youthpass has been planned as the main tool for recognition of learning outcomes in non-formal education within the next Erasmus programme in the field of youth 2021. – 2027. In the future, the main aspect of improving the Youthpass practice is supporting the use of the Key competence section of the tool in order to recognize, define, and write down the learning outcomes.
  • Since 2019. Youthpass is open for use within the KA2 and KA3 Erasmus+ projects in the field of Youth, as well as within the European Solidarity Corps.
